Welcome to the 2008 NYS Horse Council Show Program

The 2007 Show Program is over and showed, yet again, that the new format for the NYSHC Show Program is a success! All expenses have been paid and the money left over has been carried forward into the 2008 show program competition year, which started August 1, 2007. The two new Working Hunter divisions added late in the 2007 program year will be continued throughout the 2008 program year.

The show program is designed to be totally self-supporting. Championship finals prize money are determined solely by the number of participants in each of the five show divisions (hunter pleasure, child/adult jumper, working hunter over fences, working hunter under saddle and barrel racing), by the number of shows holding qualifying classes and by any sponsorships obtained. Sponsorships, if obtained, are applied either to the division sponsored or divided equally among the five divisions. Points earned during the competition year apply only towards qualifying to compete in the finals (minimum of 5 points) and towards the cash high point award, which is 10% of the total amount of prize money available for that particular division. As always, sponsorships play a big part in determining the final amount available for payout in a division.

PLEASE NOTE: There have been two important changes made for 2008 competition year. The minimum number of points needed to compete for the high point award has been lowered to 10 points. Also, the point system for the qualifying classes has been restructured to allow more people to qualify for the finals. Please check the rule book for the new breakdown.

In 2007, the total payout amount (after administrative expenses) in each division was: C/A Jumper, $3733; Hunter Pleasure, $1144; Barrel Racing, $885. The only division to have a high point winner was the C/A Jumper. There were no competitors with enough points in the Working Hunter divisions for finals to be held. For 2008, there will be guaranteed minimum prize money of $500 plus a championship cooler in each division. The following amounts from 2007 have been carried forward: C/A Jumper $1143, English Pleasure – Hunt Seat, $526 and Barrel Racing $61. These numbers will go up during the year as sponsorships are received.

The NYSHC appreciates your support of the Show Program and is looking forward to your continued support in 2007 either as an exhibitor or by offering qualifying classes in your shows.

Following is the 2008 NYSHC Horse Show Program rule book. Please take a moment to check out the general program changes. The rules for each Division remain the same as in 2007 although Hunter Pleasure has been re-titled English Pleasure – Hunt Seat.). Membership forms, nomination forms and show registration forms are enclosed in the prize book for your convenience. Participants please note that your 2008 NYSHC nomination of horse and rider must be paid before any points will be credited; points will NOT be credited retroactively. THE MEMBERSHIP OF ANY PERSON JOINING THE NYSHC FOR THE FIRST TIME AND NOMINATING AN EQUINE FOR THE SHOW PROGRAM AFTER 8/1/2007 WILL BE EFFECTIVE THROUGH 12/31/2008. However, the insurance coverage that comes with membership in the NYSHC will not become effective until 1/1/2008. BEGINNING 1/1/2008, THE NOMINATION FEE WILL BE $65, WHICH INCLUDES YOUR NYSHC MEMBERSHIP. OF THAT AMOUNT, $25 WILL BE CREDITED TOWARD THE SPECIFIC DIVISION. NOMINATIONS WISHING A FAMILY MEMBERSHIP MUST ADD $20 FOR THE INSURANCE (Total $85).

Shows held August 1, 2007 or later will be considered part of the 2008 NYSHC Show Program, which will run for the normal one year period, ending July 31, 2008.

If you have any questions about the new rules/program, please email me at stonecroftmh@yahoo.com. Thank you again for your past support. I hope we can count on you for your continued participation.

Best regards,

Marsha S. Himler
NYSHC Show Program Chair
